If you wan't the cat to use it you must choose the right one and put it on the right place, some cats can be very choosy and will not use it. Sometimes it may happend that it stops using it after long time although youdidn't change anything and for such behavior owners can't find any causes. When a kitten comes to it's new home it is important that you choose right location for litter tray but it is not only the space that matters. Sometimes she doesn't use it although you did choosen good location but don't loose hope, there are many ways to change it. You have to know that there can be many reasons for a cat to stop using litter tray and starts to do her physical needs elsewhere(including health problems, most commonly the problem is Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD)). If cat stops using it particularly if she doest it on unordinary locations or when she is doing it in weird positions you should consider health problems. Dont be engry on cat or punish her becouse of it, maybe it is not her fold and only vet can solve the problem.
Number of toilets
Everyone knows that every cat needs it's own toilette so it is very important if you have more than one cat we have as many litter trays as many cats you have. Cats usualy use ther toiletts with no problems.
Choose toilette which you and cat will like
Until recently cat toilets were just simple containers with bigger edge in which owner putted appropriate grit. Howewer nowdays they come in lots of different colours, shapes and sizes. In general there are two kinds of litter trays:

Classic, uncovered litter tray. This kind of toilettes generally
correspond to most of cats. Usually it's a simple square container with high edges which prevents the cat of scattering the grit. Some better toilettes have removable upper part which facalitates the cleaning. It is very important you choose litter tray big enough for cat to turn arround in it.
- Covered litter tray. Covered litter tray gives cat more privacy however they are not apropriate for every cat becouse some of them want to heva a rewiev on the surroundings even while they do their physical needs. Lots of cat owners prefer closed litter trays becouse they keep the smells inside and it gives better appearance but than the cat must take the smells so these toilets also must be regulary cleaned and you must change grit. If until recently it was using classic litter tray it should be able to use classic one until she gets used to the closed one. If she keeps using opened tray closing it when she is using it an see if it bothers her or not. You also have to pay attention if the cat is actually doing her physical need becouse it is not good if she keeps her urine or anal sludge. When we choose the litter tray we must account both; your wishes and cat's wishes. Color is usualy not important for cat so you can choose one you like. Any way it is important you and a cat conclude a compromis but remember cats opinion matters most.
