Getting a cat

Recent surveys in Europe heve shown that cats have lots of benefits:

 - Cats are small animals and they don't need much space

 - You don't have to walk them

 - They need les care than dogs, becouse they do most of the job themself

 - They are pretty independent animals

 - If you spend lots of time with your cat it will become great pet

 - Usually they are not offensive

 - They are cheap according to other animals

  - they don't need lots of education

Few things you should consider

before getting a cat

Do you have enough space for a cat?

Although cats need litle space, they need enough space, for running, jumping, playing. If you intend to have one cat u should have at least 50 square meters space for her. If you want to have two cats you will need at least 80 square meters.

Will you clean it's toilette and be patience enough if she does it

out of the toilet?

Cats are basicly very clean animals and they instinctly bury their faeces and urine, to do so they need a litter tray which must be  regularly cleaned. Until they learn to use the tray dhay could do their physical needs eslewhere. These accidents can also happend if they are going through stressful situations like changes in their toilette, also ih it gets ill. So what you must ask ourselfs is:"Am i really going to clean it so often?, Will I stay comm if it does it's physical needs somewhere else?"

Can you afford it?

Cats are cheap but you will have to open your wallet if you want to have one (you will have to buy them things such as food, litter tray, cat dishes, cat bed, toys, stratching trees and a vet.). Unfortunatly if it comes to biger vet cost lots of cats "owners" leave their pets in the streets. If it has serious damages it may cost hundreds. Somtimes it's got to have an ensurance to partly help you pay for it. If the animal is sick do not refuse to teke it to the vet becouse it may die and I belive u don't want that.

Do you have enough time to spend with your pet?

Every pet needs atention and so does cat. if you can't spend about two hours a day with your cat you shuld think twice before you get it. If you are the kind of person that travels all the time you should make sure your cat can travel with you, however traveling can be very stressfull for the cat. If you can't do that than maybe a hamster is better idea after all.

Will you educate it and  occasionally correct any unwanted behavior?

Cats don't actually need lot of time for education. You can teach them certain rules without any major problems, they know how to behave to domestic people as well as forign people and most of them alredy knows how to use toilette. However you  will have to invest some of your time an patienci in teaching it some basic rules in it's new home. You also have to prepare yourself for undesirable behavioural samples (such as climbing on the curtains, jumping on a kitchen table...) that we will have to correct.

Most cat have hair and the hair fals off

Before you get a cat you have to ask yourself: " Will the hair bother me?". When you get a cat you will have to clean your apartemn or house more often and thouroughly.

Where will it live, in the house or outside?

Of course she will be able to go out  sometimes, in place in your garden yust for her or for a walk around the house. They enjoy and playing and researching things outside a lot. But for her safety it 's better she lives in the house. It's an important information that inside living cats avarge live  for about 12 years when outside cats live only three.

Cats can damage things

It is posible to teach cat not to touch furniture with her claws, but accidents can may happend.

Can u understand the fact that one day she will die?

Just like every other organism, our cat will get ill and die. So are you emotionaly enough strong to take her illness and death?

Cats can bring tons of joj, happynes and satisfaction in our lives.  They are wonderful, intelegent and gentle creatures, which bring warmth in our homes and hearts. It been proven that cat owners have lower heart pressure, are  heppier  and more satisfied with their lives and they live longer. As with every other roomate you need to make compromises. If you answered "NO" to any of these questions and you aren't ready to make compromises it will be better for both of you (you and the cat) that you don't bring it to your home.

Where can I get a cat?

Now when you learned the basics it's time to find a cat u like. If you want a breed a or you will be satisfied with a unbreed cat. Unbreed cats are free while breed cats can be very expenshive, it all depends on your wishes. If you want an unbreed cat you should go to shelter and choose one you like. Animals in shelter are usualy castrated/sterilized but if they are not it would be good if you take it to the vet to do so. There is enough homeless animals out there anyway so dont let there be even more. If you stil want a breed cat you should find a breeder of specific breed you want and make an agreement.
